Indian cricket fans may finally get another chance to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar in India colours. The experienced fast bowler has been added to India’s squad for the fifth T20I against West Indies after Arshdeep Singh suffered a blow to his bowling shoulder during the fourth match.

The BCCI confirmed the squad change on October 16. However, Bhuvneshwar’s place in the final playing XI is not guaranteed yet.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Selected for India vs West Indies 5th T20I

The series decider will be played at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, October 17, with the match scheduled to begin at 7 PM IST.

According to the BCCI’s official announcement, Bhuvneshwar was brought into the squad after Arshdeep sustained the injury while batting in Wednesday’s fourth T20I in Hyderabad. The board said Arshdeep’s participation would depend on his recovery, with a decision expected before the match.

That means Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s selection is confirmed, but fans will have to wait for the team announcement to know whether he actually plays.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Comeback After Nearly Four Years

If selected, the 36-year-old pacer will make his first international appearance for India since November 2022. His last T20I was against New Zealand in Napier, making the possible return a significant moment for a bowler known for swing, accuracy and control in the powerplay.

Bhuvneshwar’s recall comes after an impressive IPL 2026 campaign and follows his selection to lead India at the Hong Kong Sixes. Can Bhuvneshwar Help India Win the Series?

The five-match T20I series is level at 2-2, setting up a high-pressure final. India will need disciplined bowling after West Indies levelled the contest with a 24-run win in the fourth match.

Bhuvneshwar’s experience could prove valuable, particularly if the conditions offer movement with the new ball. Still, his selection should not be mistaken for a confirmed return to the playing XI.

For the latest team decision and match updates, follow the official BCCI announcement and The Indian Express’ report on the series decider.

Updated October 16, 2026. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s participation remains subject to the final team selection.
