About DemocraX

DemocraX is an independent platform for digital journalism and information dedicated to explaining to our readers what is going on in India and across the globe. In our endeavors, we combine journalism with explanations, analysis, guides, and other types of useful information in spheres relevant to our audience. Independent Digital Journalism is the core of what we strive to create.

Our Story

Independent content work by DemocraX has been around since 2020. The current DemocraX website is the current iteration of this work as it evolves into its own dedicated online publication. Our mission is to create a platform that makes it easy and clear for readers to access original content within context and proper sourcing.

First, we do not believe being the first out should mean compromising the accuracy of our content. Nor do we believe information is worth more just because it is louder and more circulated.

Our goal is simple – publish information that allows people to understand the subject, evaluate the evidence and make better decisions for themselves.

2020 Roots, Truthfully Described

The origins of the independent content production by DemocraX go all the way back to 2020. It constitutes one of the key pieces in the foundation upon which the publication was built.

The present DemocraX website constitutes the current manifestation of such work. We do not claim that the current website was operating since 2020 unless this is proven independently.

It is important for us as we believe in transparency regarding our history.

Our Editorial Approach

Informed journalism means more than simply publishing facts. It means recognizing how information is obtained, verifying key points, providing context and being upfront about what we know and don’t know. Our editorial philosophy rests on a few core concepts.

01

Accuracy Over Speed

We strive to verify information prior to publication and use proper sources for the topic we cover. When information is evolving or unclear, we strive to reflect this rather than presenting an unverified unknown as factual.

02

Original & Useful Content

DemocraX produces original content meant to be truly useful for readers. We don’t just produce content for the sake of filling space or achieving higher ranks on Google searches. Research may influence our content, but published articles should provide their own value to the reader.

03

Evidence & Attribution

Our objective is to attribute information to the right sources, especially when presenting claims, data, governmental decisions, scientific results or statements made by individuals or institutions. When the topic is important we will prefer primary sources or authorities whenever possible.

04

Context is Important

An assertion may be factually correct but still misleading because of lack of context. When needed, our content will provide context in relation to a particular claim or development, which could include relevant background, dates, limitations, conflicting information, and other aspects.

05

Clear Distinction Between Content Types

DemocraX may post news, analysis, opinion pieces, and guides. These are different formats with slightly different objectives. News writing concentrates on presenting developments and verified information; analysis is about interpretation; opinion presents an individual point of view; and guides are meant to assist readers in understanding processes and topics. We will try to distinguish these categories as far as they are important.

Independence

DemocraX is an independent digital publication. Our editorial judgments need to be based on relevance, proof, public interest, accuracy and value for readers instead of being influenced by any need to support a particular political party, organisation, business, individual or commercial entity.

DemocraX is not a political party or political organisation. Independence also requires understanding that commercial connections and editorial judgments must be kept separate. Sponsorship and commercial partnerships must not be confused with editorial independence.

Accuracy, Corrections and Updates

No publication is immune from mistakes. Good journalism demands that we take mistakes seriously.

Should we identify any material mistake, should we have credible proof that there has been a mistake, or if we decide that published information needs clarification or an update, we can amend relevant parts of the content. What kind of update or correction we will apply depends on the situation and on its importance.

People can report potential mistakes or provide evidence for them using our Contact Us section. You can find out more about such matters in our Corrections & Fact-Checking policy.

Sources and Verification

Journalism greatly relies on the quality of its sources. Depending on the topic, DemocraX uses sources like:

  • Departments of the government and official records
  • Courts and other public institutions
  • Universities and research institutions
  • Official statements by companies or other organisations
  • Regulatory and statistical agencies
  • Academic papers and other reputable sources
  • Direct quotes or interviews
  • Respected journalism and established news agencies
  • Public records and documents

Sources are selected based on the topic, their credibility, relevance and evidence. Publication on the web is no guarantee that the information is correct.

Authors and Editorial Responsibility

The DemocraX seeks to provide suitable authorship and attribution for its publications. In case an article features a single author, it should feature the necessary author details via the corresponding author or profile page. If an article is written or checked for a specific organization, the publication will retain the responsibility for it.

We do not generate fictional journalists, credentials, expertise, or any other professional information to give it credibility. Current author details should match the role and contribution of that particular author.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

The assistance of artificial intelligence and other digital tools can be used at certain stages of writing, researching, editing or production process. However, generated material cannot be seen as a replacement of editorial responsibility.

Any published material should have proper human review and editorial work. We do not see our goal in presenting any unverified data as fact or generating any credentials, sources, quotes or experiences.

If the use of artificial intelligence is important for a certain content, we can include disclosure in accordance with our standards.

Reader First

DemocraX was designed for the benefit of readers, not just to satisfy the demands of search engines. While search visibility can be a useful way for readers to find journalism worth reading, it shouldn’t drive what we publish or how we present it.

We hope to create journalism that:

  • Is clear enough to be understood
  • Is useful enough to inform action when appropriate
  • Is specific rather than vague when needed
  • Includes evidence whenever possible
  • Discloses limits and uncertainties
  • Is considerate of readers’ time

We also don’t over-repeat ourselves, use misleading headlines, exaggerate statistics, or make up expertise and articles just to gain search visibility.

An Emerging Digital Publication

DemocraX is creating itself as a digital publication. That means there will likely be changes in our categories, our formats, our processes and our coverage. What we do want to stay constant is our commitment to independent thought, responsible publishing, useful information, and respect for our readers.

We don’t just want to create more publications.

We want to publish better information.

Our Commitment

The idea behind DemocraX is that it should be a publication where one can approach with some confidence that:

  • Serious statements will get proper consideration.
  • Attribution and sourcing will be significant.
  • It would not hide uncertainties under certainties.
  • It would make no problem in acknowledging errors.
  • Editorial influence and business considerations must be kept apart.
  • The content will give substance to the reader rather than any extra noise.
  • The reader deserves clarity and context and transparency.
